Healing spiritually, emotionally, and physically...

Older Women Embracing Life (OWEL) is an organized network of senior women that provides support for women—many living with and all impacted by HIV/AIDS—as well as their families and care providers.

Our vision is to create a community of women who are living full, productive and happy lives, despite the challenge of HIV/AIDS.

To bring that vision into reality, our mission is to plan, develop and implement projects and programs that will revitalize spiritual, emotional, mental and physical health and foster the development of deep and meaningful connections—connections with one another, with HIV service agencies, and with health care providers—that will support women’s confidence in proactive participation in their own care and well-being.

Here's how we work toward our vision:

  • OWEL members are educators, advocates, mentors & friends.
  • OWEL members provide one-on-one mentoring & support to women struggling with the realities of a diagnosis of HIV/AIDS.
  • OWEL members participate in health fairs, workshops, conferences & community events at which HIV testing is offered & resources shared to fortify our communities’ response to the HIV pandemic.
  • OWEL members present their own life stories & the lessons learned to increase HIV awareness & strengthen HIV prevention efforts.
